Frequently Asked Questions

Today’s topic – frequently asked questions! We dug through the archives and compiled a list of questions and answers that you might find helpful.

Do you ever let that Barry guy leave your showroom? Ha! Yes, Barry Jones, General Manager works the showroom and customer service counter. He came to Carmel Glass 21 years ago from the retail clothing business. He remembers most every face, name and story. A native of Carmel, and a history buff, he enjoys chatting with everyone that comes in the shop. Ask him a question about glass, showers, mirrors- he knows it all!

Where do you get your glass? We stock sheet material to cut cabinet glass, table tops, mirror walls, fix picture frame glass and create many other decorative applications. Insulated window glass comes to us from suppliers throughout the Midwest area. Shower glass is fabricated at a tempering plant in Colorado, Ohio and Kentucky. Due to its fragile nature, most glass arrives nestled on the fabricators trucks.

What’s the coolest application in glass or mirror you’ve created? We have mirrored all sorts of surfaces – curved walls, ceilings, and backsplashes. We have put in glass stair railing, switch glass that is opaque when turned on/or activated, clear when off, and created counter tops with “ice glass”.

Are shower doors water tight? We are not building aquariums, however depending on your application and type of shower enclosure you choose will affect the water spray outside the shower. If you have 6 body jets aimed at your shower hinge, then yes, water will splash out. If you have a 5’ deep shower base and use a semi-frameless door (meaning more hardware around the hinges and door jamb), then you will get very little water spray.
